AFLG Semi-Final 2021
The Dockers headed down to Cologne eyeing a spot into the men’s AFLG Grand Final. Against the South German division ladder leaders Munich, it was not going to be an easy task. With a swagger of travelling supporters arriving before the bounce, the Dockers were eager to perform well.
Returning star forward H Thring got the Dockers off to the perfect start kicking the opening goal of the game within the first few minutes. The ball seemed to live in the Dockers forward 50 but inaccuracy was keeping the game alive.
That seemed to be the story of the day, with a few big highlights including a 3 goal performance by debutant T Hennig and a ball busting 50m goal by Hamburg’s other first game player N Putzke. The low light of the day however, came early in the day with big forward D Snedden going down with what seems a serious knee injury.
The final scores 13.25.103 def 5.8.38 was not a true reflection on the games competitive edge. We thank Munich for the game and wish them all the best for the future.
The men’s team will now play in their third consecutive grand final and will join the women’s team who advanced after their semi finals were cancelled.
To be the only club to have both teams in the 2021 AFLG grand final is something to be very proud of. A true indication of the strength of the club. We cannot wait for the opportunity to potentially become back-to-back premiers for the women and to complete an incredible 3-peat for the men.
