AFLG 2021 R2 – Dresden

Events

After the last start, the men’s team travelled down to Dresden facing an early Round 2 elimination final. The weather conditions were atrocious and the ever improving Wolves took it right up to the Dockers in the first quarter, which saw Dresden lead by 10 points at the first break.
The second quarter, Hamburg matched the Wolves intensity and hit the front late in the half for the first time. The premiership quarter saw the Dockers take full control over the game and looked like they were going to go on with it but this new Dresden team fought back to cut the margin down to 11 points.
A tight tussle throughout the first three quarters, it was always going to be more of the same. With eight minutes to go, it was just a 1 point ball game. Both sides had momentum swings but luckily for the Dockers, we were able to convert our chances through D Snedden and G Smetko, the Dockers were very lucky to finish the game ahead, winning by 15 points.

A huge team effort led by our inspirational new coach, H Wyatt, who had his head bandaged up from the first quarter, swung the magnets around when the Dockers were down, ran back into packs all day and kicked a true leaders goal in the 3rd quarter. Harry was more than happy to take the 4 points along with his 4 staples on his head.

The Hamburg Dockers would like to thank Dresden for the game and hospitality and we wish them all the best for the rest of the season. Also a big thank you to our traveling supporters who cheered on the boys all day from the side in rain!

We now excitingly look forward to our first official game against our new local rivals, the Kiel Koalas on September 11.
